The Lagos State Government has urged residents to actively participate in the monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2026, as part of efforts to promote a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment.
The initiative is part of the state government’s broader strategy to improve environmental sanitation, prevent flooding caused by blocked drainage systems, reduce pollution and safeguard public health.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made the call in a public statement issued on Wednesday, stressing that environmental sanitation is a collective responsibility.
Wahab encouraged residents to clean their homes, surroundings, drainage channels, markets, business premises and public spaces, noting that proper waste disposal and regular environmental maintenance are essential to public health and community well-being.
According to him, the sanitation exercise is aimed at preventing flooding, reducing environmental hazards and improving sanitation standards across the state.
“Good people of Lagos State, this is a gentle reminder that the monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise will hold on Saturday, June 27, 2026, across the state,” he said.
The commissioner emphasized that sustained sanitation efforts are critical to addressing challenges associated with poor waste management and blocked drainage systems.
“A cleaner and healthier Lagos is a collective responsibility,” Wahab added, urging residents to comply with sanitation guidelines and make use of approved waste disposal channels.
He also called on community leaders, market associations and business operators to support the exercise and mobilise their members to participate.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to building a cleaner, safer and more livable Lagos, urging all residents to contribute to the success of the exercise.
