The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Lagos Division, Khan Salihu, has died at the age of 56 after a brief illness, bringing to an end a distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force marked by dedication, professionalism and exemplary service.
Although the exact circumstances surrounding his death could not be independently confirmed, sources said the senior police officer fell ill at his residence and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Monday.
Confirming the development in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said the Lagos State Police Command received the news of Salihu’s passing with deep sorrow, describing it as a painful loss to the Command and the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the statement, the late Deputy Commissioner was a highly disciplined and committed officer who served with exceptional professionalism, loyalty and integrity throughout his career. It noted that he consistently demonstrated diligence, outstanding leadership and an unwavering commitment to duty.
“He distinguished himself through his wealth of experience, administrative acumen and invaluable contributions, which significantly strengthened the effective management and operational efficiency of the Lagos State Police Command,” the statement said.
The Command added that his death came as a profound shock to officers and men of the Force, who remembered him as a calm, dependable and thorough officer whose leadership and presence would be greatly missed.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, on behalf of officers and personnel of the Command, extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and associates of the deceased, praying for strength and comfort for them during this difficult time.
The Command also prayed for the repose of his soul and asked Almighty God to grant him eternal rest and his loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss.
“DCP Khan Salihu will be remembered for his dedication, humility, professionalism and selfless service to the nation and the Nigeria Police Force. His legacy will continue to inspire officers within the Lagos State Police Command and beyond,” the Commissioner said.
