The Lagos State Government has announced the date for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), commonly known as Junior WAEC.
The Lagos State Examinations Board under the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education disclosed that the examination will begin on Monday, June 29, 2026, and end on Monday, July 6, 2026.
The announcement was made through the ministry’s official communication channels on Thursday.
Examination marks transition to senior secondary school
The Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Adebayo Orunsolu, described the examination as an important stage in the academic journey of students across the state.
He explained that the BECE serves as the transition assessment for students completing Junior Secondary School and moving into Senior Secondary School.
The examination applies to students in public schools and approved private schools within Lagos State.
Schools, parents urged to prepare candidates
Orunsolu advised parents, guardians and school administrators to follow the examination timetable and ensure students are properly prepared.
He said schools must make sure eligible candidates meet all requirements before the examination begins.
According to him, the state has completed the necessary arrangements to ensure a smooth and credible examination process.
Lagos warns against examination malpractice
The Lagos State Examinations Board also restated its commitment to maintaining examination standards.
Orunsolu warned that any form of malpractice, disruption or misconduct during the examination period would attract appropriate penalties.
He urged all stakeholders to support efforts aimed at protecting the integrity of the examination.
