The Life After Abuse Foundation (LAAF) has honoured Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Arise News Correspondent Ohi Odiah, health influencer Dr Chinonso Fidelis, popularly known as Aproko Doctor, and 39 other fathers, leaders and advocates for their contributions to advancing men’s mental health and wellbeing.
The recognition was announced in a press release issued on Sunday as part of the Foundation’s Father’s Week appreciation initiative.
According to LAAF, the honourees have played important roles in strengthening efforts to support boys and men affected by abuse and trauma through advocacy, leadership, public engagement and policy support.
Other prominent figures recognised by the Foundation include Founding Senior Pastor of The Fountain of Life Church, Taiwo Odukoya; former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung; Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende; broadcast journalist Joshua Morakinyo; and Professor of Social Work at the University of Lagos, Fatai Adesina Badru.
The Foundation said the initiative was aimed at recognising fathers and male allies whose contributions have helped advance conversations around emotional wellbeing, healthy masculinity, family values and social transformation.
It stated: “As we reflect on the power of positive male influence, we recognise these remarkable men who have used their voices, platforms, resources, and leadership to champion conversations around emotional wellbeing, healthy masculinity, family values, and social transformation.”
LAAF noted that the contributions of the honourees extend beyond support for the organisation itself.
“Their contributions represent more than support for an organisation, they represent a commitment to building a world where individuals, especially boys and men, have access to healing, dignity, support, and opportunities to thrive,” the Foundation said.
Speaking on the recognition, Executive Director and Founder of Life After Abuse Foundation, Halima Layeni, said the support of the honourees has been instrumental to the organisation’s growth and impact.
“These men have shown up for our work in ways that go far beyond a title,” Layeni said.
“Their belief in this mission, and their willingness to stand publicly for boys and men who have suffered in silence, is the reason we have been able to grow our reach and impact. We honor them not just as supporters, but as fathers in every sense of the word.”
The Foundation said progress in mental health advocacy and abuse prevention requires collective action and praised the honourees for helping to create awareness around issues affecting boys and men.
“These fathers of impact demonstrate the importance of men actively participating in creating safer homes, stronger families, and healthier communities,” the statement added.
LAAF further noted that through the support of the honourees, it has continued to amplify the message that “seeking help is a sign of strength, healing is possible, and every person deserves compassion and support.”
The Foundation expressed appreciation to all those recognised, saying their commitment continues to inspire efforts to break the silence surrounding male abuse, trauma and mental health challenges.
Life After Abuse Foundation provides free psychosocial support, counselling and advocacy for boys and men affected by abuse and trauma. Through policy engagement, public education and direct support services, the organisation seeks to promote a more inclusive approach to healing and support for survivors.
