The traditional ruler of Olohuntele Community has regained his freedom after spending nearly two months in captivity following his abduction by suspected terrorists.
The family of the community head disclosed that a ransom fee which gulped up millions was paid as well as a motorcycle given to the kidnapping gang after which the monarch was freed, after which he reportedly returned home to his family members.
The family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the matter, confirmed on Wednesday that the traditional ruler had reunited with his relatives.
“He was released on Tuesday night after the abductors collected millions of naira and a motorcycle.
“We are grateful that he returned alive, but he is not in good condition after enduring almost two months in captivity,” the source said.
According to the source, the monarch appeared physically exhausted and emotionally shaken by the experience, having allegedly endured difficult conditions throughout his detention.
Residents of the community were said to have welcomed the news with excitement, as uncertainty over the monarch’s fate had generated anxiety since he was taken away by armed men.
The residents recalled that the monarch was abducted on April 15, 2025, at about 3pm at the Olohuntele Community, located in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, the abductors reportedly seized and whisked him away to an undisclosed location.
