The Kano State Police Command has detained popular TikTok personality Fati Cele following the death of her boyfriend, Isma’il Makaye, at her residence in the state.
The police confirmed that the TikTok creator is currently in custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the development but said further details could not be released at the moment because the investigation is ongoing.
Incident occurred at residence
Reports indicate that Cele, who is originally from Borno State, lives in a rented apartment in the Danbare area of Kano.
She is known on TikTok and has built a following of more than 32,000 users on the platform.
A source close to the deceased claimed that Cele raised an alarm from the residence, reportedly stating that there was a fire incident.
According to the source, Makaye was taken to Nassarawa Hospital for medical attention but later died.
Police take over investigation
Following the incident, officers from the Dorayi Babba Police Division reportedly took Cele into custody while they investigate what happened.
Makaye, who was a cosmetics trader in Kano, lived around the Hotoro Tishama area of the state.
Family associates said his remains were released to relatives and he was later buried at Unguwa Uku Yan Awaki.
Authorities have not released further information on the cause of death or the outcome of the investigation.
