THE Turaki-led faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State, has affirmed unity and commitment to democratic ideals, following recent defections of its members to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Its Chairman, Yusuf Ado Kibiya, said this at a news conference on Monday in Kano.
He said the party remains cohesive, disciplined, and focused on delivering good governance in the state.
Kibiya highlighted the peaceful conduct of the PDP primaries as a demonstration of commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and respect for due process.
“Our primaries reflected the maturity and discipline of our members and reinforce public confidence in our democratic process,” he said.
Kibiya also condemned disruptions at the PDP’s Special National Convention in Abuja, and dismissed the incident as undermining democratic principles and Nigeria’s constitutional rights.
He urged political actors to respect the rule of law and engage constructively in the political process.
Kibiya acknowledged the decision of the PDP national executive regarding the presidential candidature of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
He emphasized Kano PDP’s alignment with the party’s broader objectives, and its willingness to engage in constructive dialogue to advance its mission locally and nationally.
According to Kibiya, the PDP remains a credible and competitive force, committed to delivering policies to enhance security, create jobs, and improve essential services.
“Together, we will continue to build a PDP that is democratic, inclusive, and focused on real progress for all communities in Kano State,” he said.
Kibiya further called for unity, discipline, and sustained engagement with citizens, reinforcing the party’s pledge to uphold democratic values, good governance, and accountability. (NAN)
