Aspirants of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State have faulted the results of the conducted primary election calling on the party’stakehokders to carry out investigation and unravel facts of the poll.
The politicians alleged that the election and results were riddled with irregularities and lacked transparency, raising serious concerns about the credibility of the selection process and threatened the principles of fairness.
The agitators cited flaws surrounding the primaries adding that it has cast doubt on the legitimacy of the candidates said to have emerged from the exercise, further adding that party members and aspirants were denied a transparent and inclusive process.
Speaking in a press briefing yesterday, one of them, Wada Masu, said that the group was compelled to publicly voice its concerns after efforts to address the matter internally failed to yield results.
“We are deeply dissatisfied with what has been presented as a valid primary election,” Masu said.
“The circumstances surrounding the exercise raise fundamental questions about its transparency and legitimacy,” he added, expressing that all aspirants were engaged in the party’s screening exercise on the same day the primaries were reportedly conducted, making it difficult to understand how a legitimate election could have taken place.
He further noted that the party’s election committee subsequently invited aspirants to a consensus meeting, with the understanding that primary elections would only be held if consensus efforts were unsuccessful.
“That invitation clearly suggested that no conclusive primary election had taken place.
“The sequence of events directly contradicts claims that a valid primary had already been conducted,” Masu said.
The aspirants maintained that the situation poses a serious challenge to justice, fairness, and the democratic values the party claims to uphold.
Consequently, they called on the national leadership of the ADC to urgently investigate the matter and ensure that all concerns raised by stakeholders are properly addressed.
“We are seeking a fair, lawful, and transparent resolution that will protect the rights of party members and prevent unnecessary disputes within the party,” he stated.
He stressed that the group’s position was not directed against any individual but was aimed at safeguarding due process and preserving confidence in the party’s internal democratic structures.
