Pelley’s termination came after he questioned and criticized newly appointed ‘60 Minutes’ executive producer Nick Bilton in a staff-wide meeting. His scathing comments leaked to news outlets outside, triggering a crisis inside CBS, CNN reported.
Is Scott Pelley married?
Yes, Pelley is married to former television reporter and advertising executive Jane Boone. Boone first saw Pelley when she was studying journalism at Southern Methodist University, she told the New Canaan-Darien Magazine in January 2020. They started dating after Boone later began interning at the same local news station as Pelley.
“In the beginning, it was just very natural,” Boone told the magazine. “He liked my friends, and you can kind of tell that way. He was very different from any of the guys I ever dated. When I met him, he was hang gliding and always taking pictures and developing them.”

Boone started working at a rival Dallas news station after graduating from college, People reported. However, the competition did not get in the way of their relationship. The two tied the knot in 1983.
“When we got married, it was a story in the Dallas Morning News: ‘Competitors Tie the Knot,’ ” she recalled.
The couple share two children – son Reece and daughter Blair.
Scott Pelley’s ‘60’ Minutes exit
In a meeting on Monday, Pelley accused editor in chief Bari Weiss of trying to “kill” the newsmagazine and objected to her hiring of Bilton, a former tech reporter with little TV news experience, to run the program. He had reportedly refused to meet with Bilton and Weiss privately to discuss last Thursday’s shake-up at ‘60 Minutes,’ which included the firings of top producers and two correspondents. On the same day, Bilton was appointed.
Pelley at Monday’s staff meeting depicted Weiss and Bilton as unqualified for their jobs. He even said that Bilton would “never be welcome here,” per CNN.
The meeting ended without any clear resolution about the way forward. Pelley was fired shortly after.

Pelley said in a statement after being fired that ‘60 Minutes’ “lost its DNA” due to last week’s firings.
“Good people were silenced because they stood up for our audience,” Pelley wrote. “They stood for fairness against the forces of political bias; they stood for professionalism against chaos.”
