The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has deployed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, Dankombo Morris, to Plateau State for an on-the-spot assessment following the recent attack on Kawel Community in Mushere District of Bokkos Local Government Area.
The deployment is aimed at restoring calm, preventing further violence, and strengthening security in the affected communities.
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo.
According to the statement, the AIG, accompanied by members of the state police management team, visited Bokkos Local Government Area where he met with local government officials, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders to assess the security situation and discuss measures to prevent future attacks.
During the visit, the Executive Chairman of Bokkos LGA, Hon. Amalau Samuel, commended the Inspector-General of Police for his swift response to the incident, describing the attack as tragic and unprovoked.
He noted that victims of the attack had already been buried and appealed for the deployment of additional security personnel and operational resources to strengthen protection of lives and property in the area.
Also speaking, Hajara Yunana, President of the Women in Politics Initiative, Plateau State Chapter, expressed concern over the impact of the violence on women and children. She urged security agencies to ensure that assurances are backed by concrete action, and called for the use of modern policing technologies to improve security in vulnerable communities.
In his remarks, AIG Morris conveyed the condolences of the Inspector-General of Police to the government and people of Plateau State, particularly residents of Kawel Community.
He condemned the attack as cruel and unjustifiable, assuring that security agencies are working to apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice.
He disclosed that the Inspector-General had approved the deployment of additional personnel and operational assets, including Police Mobile Force units and other tactical teams, to reinforce security, protect vulnerable communities, and restore public confidence.
AIG Morris urged community leaders, youth groups, and residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to support ongoing investigations and peace-building efforts.
He assured residents that the situation had been brought under control and encouraged them to go about their lawful activities without fear, while reaffirming the police commitment to sustaining peace and security across the state.
