IGP Charges Senior Officers on Proactive Policing, Reviews Security Operations
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to adopt proactive, intelligence-driven and adaptive policing strategies to effectively address the country’s evolving security challenges.
The charge was delivered during the Force’s monthly conference with strategic senior officers held on Tuesday at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The conference brought together Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs), Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), Commissioners of Police (CPs) and other senior officers to review the nation’s security situation and assess ongoing operational strategies.
Addressing the gathering, the IGP said Nigeria continues to face diverse security threats, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related violence, terrorism, banditry, farmer-herder conflicts and cyber-enabled crimes.
He stressed the need for stronger leadership, enhanced coordination and more effective operational responses to ensure the police remain ahead of criminal elements and emerging threats across the country.
According to Disu, the dynamic nature of contemporary security challenges requires officers at all levels to remain vigilant, innovative and committed to intelligence-led policing in order to safeguard lives and property.
The police chief also highlighted major operational achievements recorded by the Force since its last strategic conference in May 2026.
He disclosed that police operatives arrested eight suspected terrorists, 55 kidnapping suspects, 65 armed robbery suspects, 29 murder suspects and 42 suspected cultists during various operations nationwide.
The IGP further revealed that 88 kidnapped victims were rescued within the period, while security operatives recovered 114 firearms, 843 rounds of ammunition and 28 stolen vehicles.
Disu commended officers and men of the Force for their dedication and sacrifices in combating crime and maintaining public safety, urging them to sustain the momentum in ongoing operations.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening internal security, enhancing public confidence and deploying effective policing strategies to tackle criminal activities across the country.
