“I never asked for his charity” – Woman cries out as husband files for divorce over daughter’s wedding
A UK-based Nigerian woman has cried out online after her husband reportedly left home and filed for divorce following a disagreement over her daughter’s upcoming wedding.
The story, shared as an anonymous confession, has sparked widespread reactions online.
Husband Raised Daughter for 16 Years
The woman explained that her Nigerian ex-husband abandoned her and their daughter 16 years ago when the child was 10 years old.
She said:
“…My husband has left the house for the past few days and is now talking about divorce on grounds of deception. I am based in the UK. Sixteen years ago, my Nigerian ex-husband abandoned me and our 10-year-old daughter. We were struggling badly. That was when I met my current husband, a white man who showed me and my daughter genuine love. He married me, took full responsibility, and has been the only father my daughter has known for the past 16 years. He paid for everything while my ex-husband refused to step up.”
Wedding Plans
She revealed that her daughter, now 26, is in serious marriage discussions with a man from a wealthy and prestigious Yoruba family in the UK with strong ties to both Nigeria and Britain.
Tensions reportedly began when plans for the traditional wedding ceremonies were discussed.
“Now my daughter is 26 and in serious marriage discussions with a man from a very wealthy and prestigious Yoruba family here in the UK. They have deep roots and strong connections in both Nigeria and Britain.
“When the family started talking about the traditional introduction and wedding plans, I made it clear that my daughter’s biological father must be involved in key parts of the ceremony, including walking her down the aisle, to present a proper, cohesive Yoruba family image,” she stated.
Husband Feels Betrayed
She said her husband was deeply hurt by her decision, insisting he had been the one present throughout the child’s upbringing.
“My white husband is furious. He feels deeply betrayed after 16 years of sacrifice. He feels he is the one who has been there for her and me and should walk her down the aisle.”
Argument Turns Heated
She explained that the situation escalated during an argument, where she made a statement she now regrets, as her husband is now seeking a divorce.
“In the heat of an argument on this matter one evening I told him I never asked for his charity. He chose to step in, and I accepted because I had a child to protect.”
“Those words have now become the main issue. He says I deceived him all these years and I have been served with divorce papers. He has also withdrawn all financial support he had initially promised for the wedding, which is very substantial since my daughter’s father isn’t contributing any money to the actual wedding.”
“I still love him. He has been a good man to both of us. But for my daughter’s future and this marriage into such a prominent family, I need to project the right image. I cannot compromise on that…Am I wrong for telling the truth? Am I wrong for wanting the best presentation for my daughter’s future? My heart is heavy.”
