“I broke up immediately” — 38-year-old woman ends relationship after cooking test at would-be mother-in-law’s house

A 38-year-old woman has ended her relationship after a weekend visit to her boyfriend’s mother turned into what she described as an unexpected “cooking test” for marriage suitability.

According to her account shared by a friend, she had been invited by her to-be mother-in-law to spend the weekend at her home, an invitation she accepted with excitement and expectations of bonding.

Weekend visit turns into cooking assignment

On arrival, she was asked to prepare egusi and vegetable soup using ingredients already bought from the market.

Hoping to impress, she quickly turned to YouTube for guidance but ended up with a meal described as too salty after tasting.

The situation escalated when the woman allegedly assessed her cooking and raised concerns about her readiness for marriage.

In her words, the 38-year-old explained her decision after the encounter:

“Any woman setting cooking exams before marriage will definitely want to control her marriage.”

Relationship ends after verdict

She was given six months to improve her cooking skills before any further consideration of marriage.

However, instead of accepting the condition, she called her boyfriend after returning home and ended the relationship immediately.

She stated she was uncomfortable with what she perceived as a test of domestic control rather than partnership expectations.

The incident has since sparked quiet debate around social expectations placed on women during marriage introductions, especially in traditional family settings where domestic skills are often scrutinised.
