How Kano Police Arrested 187 Suspected Thugs, Drug Peddlers in 2 Days – CP Bakori
The Kano State Police Command has arrested 187 suspected thugs, drug dealers and other criminal suspects during a coordinated statewide operation aimed at dismantling criminal networks and curbing violent crime across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this on Monday during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano, where he outlined the achievements of the command’s recent security operations and ongoing efforts to sustain a decline in crime across the state.
According to the police commissioner, the three-day operation, conducted between June 5 and June 7, covered all 44 local government areas of Kano State and targeted identified criminal hideouts, black spots and drug distribution centres.
He said the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence and information provided by members of the public.
Bakori revealed that 187 suspects, including alleged thugs, drug peddlers and individuals found in possession of offensive weapons, were arrested during the exercise.
He added that the suspects are currently undergoing investigation and would be prosecuted where sufficient evidence is established.
The police also recovered 270 dangerous weapons, including knives, cutlasses, clubs and other items allegedly used in violent crimes.
In addition, security operatives seized large quantities of suspected illicit substances, including Cannabis Sativa, Exol tablets and a dangerous drug mixture popularly known as “Suck and Die.”
According to the commissioner, the recoveries have significantly weakened the operational capacity of criminal elements and contributed to ongoing efforts to improve public safety.
Bakori attributed the success of the operation to the effectiveness of the Command’s security initiatives, particularly Operation Kukan Kura and the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
He explained that Operation Kukan Kura has enhanced police visibility, improved response times to distress calls and denied criminal elements the opportunity to regroup in identified flashpoints across the state.
The VCRU, he said, has strengthened the command’s tactical response to armed violence and gang-related activities through intelligence-driven operations and rapid deployment capabilities.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to fighting crime, the commissioner warned that no form of criminality would be tolerated in Kano State.
“As I stated on assumption of duty, no form of criminality will be entertained in Kano State. The Command will continue to apply the law firmly and fairly against thuggery, drug trafficking and violent offending,” he said.
Bakori noted that crime statistics and feedback from communities indicate a reduction in criminal activities across several parts of the state, attributing the improvement to sustained security operations, enhanced intelligence gathering and the professionalism of police personnel.
He commended the Kano State Government for its support to security agencies and also appreciated residents for providing useful information that has aided crime-fighting efforts.
The commissioner urged members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activities and criminal movements to the nearest police formation or through designated emergency lines, assuring that all information would be treated confidentially.
He also issued a stern warning to criminal elements, stating that Kano was no longer a safe haven for individuals involved in violence, drug trafficking and other unlawful activities.
“The Command will maintain sustained pressure through raids, intelligence operations and prosecution until criminality becomes untenable,” he said.
Bakori reiterated the commitment of the Kano State Police Command to protecting lives and property, upholding the rule of law and strengthening community policing as part of efforts to sustain the downward trend in crime across the state.
