The Kebbi and Oyo State Governments have declared Tuesday, 16, May, a public holiday to mark the this year’s Islamic Near Year, 1448 AH, to allow residents and civil servants across the states celebrate the Muslim religious event.
The state governments disclosed that the work-free day was approved by the state’s governors, Nasir Idris and Seyi Makinde in an issued statement directing all ministries, departments and agencies to suspend official activities for the one-day holiday, while workers are expected to return to their duties immediately after the celebration.
The governments also called on citizens to use the occasion to offer prayers for lasting peace, unity and sustained progress in the state and across Nigeria.
Both governors congratulated Muslims on witnessing the new Hijrah year and urged them to embrace the values associated with the Islamic calendar, including sacrifice, patience, tolerance and devotion to God.
They also encouraged residents to remain law-abiding and continue supporting initiatives aimed at promoting development and social harmony.
