A 27-year-old man, Mohammed Rafiu, has been handed a seven-year-jail term for committing theft by stealing worship instruments in a Ghanaian church.
During his trial at the Hohoe Circuit Court yesterday, Rafiu pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing which was imposed on him by the police, who held that the act is a contravention of the stipulated laws of the country.
Prior to his sentencing, the prosecution submitted that the offender illegally entered into the Faith International Ministry Church in the Volta Region and stole items including an amplifier and equalizer, a mixer and a crossover machine, all which he put in a sack and walked out of the religions house.
The police, in a statement released on Tuesday, relayed that the lawbreaker, while attempting to board a bus for an escape out of the area, was spotted by residents in the area who approached him to inspect the contents in the sack.
The security agency stated that the mob, after seeing the items in the bag and with no satisfactory answer provided by Rafiu on how he was able to get the items, handed him over to the authorities, hence, leading to his arraignment and sentencing of three years for unlawful entry and four for stealing.
The court reminisced that the transgressor committed the offence in 2023, stating that the prison term would be served concurrently, meaning that he would be imprisoned for another years.
