German club, RB Leipzig, has concluded contract aggrement with manager of Spanish club, Mallorca, Martin Demichelis, to replace its former manager, Ole Werner, who parted ways with the club after stabilizing the team.
The club has concluded plans to trigger the 2.5 milliom Euros releases clause in the Bayern Munich former defender’s contract with the Spanish club.
RB Leipzig relieved Werner of his duties despite steering the club back into the UEFA Champions League last season.
Werner, who was relieved of his duties on Wednesday, was recruited from Werder Bremen last summer, and oversaw a successful rebuild following the departure of several key players.
Yet despite steering Leipzig to a third-place finish in the Bundesliga and back into the UEFA Champions League, the Saxony outfit has opted to part ways and pursue a new direction.
“We have spent the past few days carrying out a thorough final review of the recent season. On Tuesday evening, we decided that a change of head coach was needed. [The coaching team] played a major role in our successful rebuild and in qualifying for the Champions League.” said Leipzig sporting director, Marcel Schäfer.
“Nevertheless, we believe the challenges ahead require new ideas and a different approach. We wish Ole, Tom [Cichon], and Patrick [Kohlmann] every success and all the best for the future.”
The 38-year-old’s averaged 1.95 points per game across 38 competitive matches in charge of Leipzig was the club’s seventh permanent head coach since their promotion to the Bundesliga in 2015/16.
Leipzig return for pre-season on 13 July, with a first-round DFB Cup tie against Eintracht Trier set to be their first competitive fixture of 2026/27 (21–24 August). A week later, Die Roten Bullen will begin their 11th consecutive Bundesliga campaign, the fixtures for which will be released on 2 July.
Ole Werner had been head coach of RB Leipzig since 1st July 2025 and took charge of 38 competitive matches.
In the 2025/26 season, he led the team to third place in the Bundesliga and the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal.
