THE Gamaliel & Susan Onosode Foundation (GAMSU) and the Olubunmi Alao Foundation (OAF) on Wednesday, May 27, celebrated the 2026 Children’s Day with more than 100 children drawn from schools and community-based organisations in Surulere, Lagos.
The event, held at Adeniji Primary School, Surulere, brought together pupils from Adeniji Primary School, Obele Primary School, Dolly Children Foundation and Destiny Trust Foundation for a day of educational, recreational and talent-development activities.
The celebration attracted teachers, parents, community leaders and representatives of both foundations, who reiterated the importance of investing in children as a pathway to national development.
Speaking at the event, officials of the foundations said the initiative was designed to promote learning, creativity, self-confidence and social inclusion among children, particularly those from underserved communities.
According to them, Children’s Day provides an opportunity to recognise the rights, aspirations and potential of young people while encouraging stakeholders to support their development.
The programme featured goodwill messages, spelling bee competitions, music performances, dance presentations and other interactive activities aimed at fostering creativity and personal growth among participants.
Many of the children showcased exceptional talents during the event, earning applause from parents, teachers and guests.
The organisers said the activities were carefully designed to create a memorable experience for the children while reinforcing the importance of education and character development.
As part of the celebration, educational materials, including books and backpacks, were distributed to all participating children.
The foundations said the gesture was intended to support learning and encourage academic excellence among the beneficiaries.
They noted that beyond the festivities, the event underscored the need for stronger collaboration among non-governmental organisations, schools, communities and development partners in advancing child welfare and educational opportunities.
According to the organisers, sustainable investments in children remain critical to building a more inclusive, productive and prosperous society.
They urged governments, private sector organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to continue supporting initiatives that promote the welfare, education and protection of children.
The event ended with recreational activities, games and presentations by the children, who expressed appreciation to the organisers for providing an opportunity to learn, interact and celebrate.
