The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended two students over allegations of cyberbullying involving the institution’s suspended Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, James Iyanuoluwa Adio.
The university announced the suspension in a statement published on its official news platform on Friday.
The statement, signed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Tajudeen Opoola, who is currently serving as Acting Vice-Chancellor, said the action followed allegations against the students.
Students accused of sharing private information
The suspended students were identified as Alao Iyanuoluwa Odunayo and Olawale Abiodun Samuel.
According to the university, the two students were accused of working together to publish Adio’s private information online after an alleged disagreement involving financial demands.
FUOYE described the alleged action as unacceptable and said such behaviour could negatively affect the reputation of the institution.
Investigation continues
The university said investigations into the matter are ongoing but directed the students to remain suspended while the process continues.
Management added that it remains committed to addressing actions capable of damaging the image of the university community.
Background of SUG president’s suspension
Adio was earlier suspended by FUOYE alongside the institution’s Deputy Director of Students Affairs over allegations connected to the collection of money from first-year students.
The university alleged that students were asked to pay ₦1,000 for practical sessions and claimed that ₦700,000 was linked to Adio’s personal account.
Following his suspension, a private video allegedly involving him circulated online, attracting public attention and prompting intervention from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
