Four Notorious Bandit Commanders Killed in Rival Gang Clash in Kaduna

At least four suspected terrorist kingpins, including a notorious commander identified as Laggu, have been killed in a violent confrontation between rival armed groups in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Security sources said the clash occurred around the Rijana Dam area and was uncovered following credible human intelligence reports received on June 8.

According to the sources, the confrontation involved rival terrorist factions operating within the Rijana axis, an area that has remained a security hotspot due to the activities of armed criminal groups.

Preliminary intelligence indicated that four senior commanders were killed during the exchange, while several other fighters sustained varying degrees of injury.

Although the immediate cause of the clash has not been conclusively established, security sources believe the violence may have stemmed from disputes over territorial control, leadership rivalries, competition for resources, or disagreements over the sharing of proceeds from criminal activities.

The bodies of the slain commanders were reportedly evacuated by members of the groups for burial. While Laggu has been identified among the deceased, efforts are ongoing to establish the identities of the other commanders and ascertain the number of wounded fighters, as well as the factions involved in the confrontation.

Security analysts note that infighting among terrorist and bandit groups has become increasingly common across parts of the North-West, where rival factions frequently engage in violent power struggles over strategic routes, operational territories and spheres of influence.

The reported deaths of the senior commanders are believed to have dealt a significant setback to the affected criminal networks, particularly given their roles in coordinating and directing operations within the region.

Security forces have intensified surveillance and intelligence-gathering efforts across the Rijana-Kachia corridor to monitor the movement of surviving fighters, prevent possible retaliatory attacks and assess the broader security implications of the incident.

Authorities have reassured residents that ongoing security operations are focused on degrading the operational capabilities of terrorist and bandit groups while enhancing the safety of communities across southern Kaduna.
