No fewer than four bandit commanders, including one popularly known as Laggu have died, and several second-in commands injured following a deadly confrontation between the insurgent group in Kaduna state.
It was gathered that the individuals engaged in weaponry, leading to the numbers of the dead casualties and severely injured persons who are in need of medical intervention.
The clash at the Rijana Dam axis in Kachia Local Government Area of the State was uncovered through credible human intelligence reports received by security agencies yesterday, a security sources familiar with the development, on Wednesday stated that the precise trigger of the violence had yet to be confirmed.
However, he said such confrontations are frequently linked to disputes over territorial dominance, leadership rivalries, control of strategic routes, or disagreements over ransoms.
“The clash appears to have stemmed from internal disagreements among rival factions.
“These kinds of conflicts often emerge when criminal groups compete for influence and resources,” the source said.
According to the source, bodies of the killed commanders have been recovered and taken away for burial, while efforts continued to establish the identities of the three remaining dead commanders.
He also disclosed that military forces have intensified surveillance and intelligence-gathering operations across the Rijana-Kachia corridor to monitor the movement of surviving fighters and prevent possible retaliatory attacks on residents.
