A former Supervisory Councillor for Works in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Innocent Mbone, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Mbone said his decision to leave the ruling party was driven by what he described as an undemocratic process and widespread irregularities during the recently concluded party primaries.
He announced his resignation on Monday in a letter addressed to the APC chairman of Akwanga East Ward in Akwanga Local Government Area.
In the letter, the former council official expressed appreciation to the APC leadership for the opportunities he had been given to serve the party and the people in various capacities during his membership.
Mbone also confirmed his move to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), saying the new platform would enable him to pursue his political aspirations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His defection adds to the growing wave of political realignments in the state, as political actors continue positioning themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
