Five workers die in South Korea aerospace plant explosion

At least five persons have died alongside two others suffering gruesome injuries following an explosion at the South Korean Hanwha Aerospace facility.

The blast, at the country’s defence firm, was said to have caused the mishap and also destroyed properties of yet to be known value causing some recorded losses in the Asian country.

The incident which happened at about 11am on Monday at the facility in Daejeon city, about 150 kilometers south of Seoul, led to a distress call to emergency fighters who are combing the scene to ensure rescue mission and also evacuate bodies of the deceased persons, as reported by Yonhap news agency.

The authorities have directed more rescuing activities, adding that the cause of the blast, still unknown, would be passed in due time, President Lee Myung instructing officials to mobilise all available resources to bring the fire under control.

Hanwha Aerospace is a major South Korean defence manufacturer which produces weapons, artillery systems and aerospace components.

Its Daejeon facility focuses on research and development, including advanced weapons technologies and space-related systems.
