Five Soldiers, Three Vigilantes, Many Terrorists Killed as Troops Repel Attack on Borno Military Base

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled a terrorist attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mandaragirau in Borno State, inflicting casualties on the attackers despite adverse weather conditions that accompanied the assault.

The military disclosed that the attack occurred at about 3:00 a.m. on Friday when terrorists attempted to breach sections of the base under the cover of heavy rainfall and poor visibility.

According to Operation HADIN KAI, troops of FOB Mandaragirau, operating under the 25 Brigade of Sector 2, mounted a fierce counter-offensive that thwarted the attack and prevented the insurgents from gaining access to the facility.

The military said the troops inflicted significant losses on the attackers during the engagement, forcing them to abandon their attempt to overrun the base.

However, the operation came at a cost as five soldiers lost their lives during the intense firefight and close-quarter combat that ensued.

Three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) also died while supporting troops in the defence of the base.

Several personnel who sustained injuries during the encounter were airlifted by the Air Component Command and are currently receiving medical treatment. Military authorities said the wounded are in stable condition.

The military also confirmed that some equipment was damaged during the exchange of fire.

Despite the casualties, Operation HADIN KAI stated that troops remain firmly in control of the Forward Operating Base and continue to dominate the surrounding area, with exploitation operations ongoing to consolidate gains and prevent further threats.

The command described the attack as another indication of the growing desperation of terrorist groups facing sustained military pressure across the North-East theatre.

It noted that additional troops and critical combat enablers have been deployed to strengthen ongoing operations and enhance security across the region.

Operation HADIN KAI paid tribute to the fallen soldiers and CJTF members, describing their sacrifice as a demonstration of exceptional courage, professionalism and commitment to the defence of the nation.

The military reaffirmed its resolve to sustain offensive operations against insurgent groups while taking all necessary measures to protect communities and maintain security across the North-East.
