The Federal Government has disclosed that it would embark on a three-day daily feeding of at least 90,000 students in Lagos State public primary schools in an initiative aimed at tackling hunger among school children and also improve learning outcomes.
The initiative, in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and in conjunction with the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, NHGSFP, is expected have 30,000 beneficiaries in a three-day period, as informed by the agency’s Programme Manager, Aderemi Adebowale.
Adebowale, during a news conference held at Alausa, Ikeja, ahead of the programme, tagged ”Adopt A School for Snacks For Thought – PBAT FEEDS, said that the measure has been designed to drive transparency, accountability and community participation in school nutritional support.
The Speaker while informing that the scheme would run from June 30 to July 2, 2026, mentioned that it was convened following reports of millions of pupils arriving at school every day with keenness learn but constrained by inadequate nutrition.
According to her, studies have consistently shown that hunger negatively affects concentration, memory retention, cognitive development, classroom participation and overall academic performance.
“A hungry child struggles to learn, and a child who struggles to learn is less likely to reach his or her full potential,” Adebowale said, and continued saying,“The vision is to create a Nigeria where no child is prevented from learning because of hunger. Nutrition is not merely a welfare intervention; it is an investment in human capital development and national productivity.
She held that under the programme, sponsors will be able to adopt a classroom, a grade level, an entire school, multiple schools, a local government area, a senatorial district or even an entire state by providing nutritious snacks and beverages for pupils over a specified period.
Adebowale said the initiative is open to individuals, corporate organisations, foundations, development partners, alumni associations, faith-based organisations, professional groups, community associations, as well as state and local governments.
The Program Manager disclosed that a key feature of the initiative is the introduction of the Adopt A School for Snacks 4 Thought Dashboard, a digital platform designed to manage sponsorship, monitor implementation and provide real-time accountability.
According to Adebowale, sponsors will be able to search schools by state, local government area or senatorial district, view school profiles and enrolment figures, and complete sponsorship commitments online.
“The dashboard will also provide real-time data on adopted schools, schools awaiting sponsorship, the number of beneficiaries reached, geographical distribution of support and sponsorship status.
“This dashboard is a game changer. It moves school support from a traditional donation model to a measurable impact model. Sponsors will be able to see exactly who they are helping, where support is going, how resources are being utilised and what outcomes are being achieved,” she said.
Adebowale added that the platform would feature live monitoring and verification tools, including attendance tracking, distribution verification, geospatial mapping, impact monitoring and field validation mechanisms.
She noted that government agencies and development partners would also be able to use the platform’s analytics to identify underserved schools, target vulnerable communities, improve policy decisions and strengthen resource allocation.
The NHGSFP manager expressed optimism that the initiative would contribute significantly to improved school attendance, enhanced classroom concentration, better learning outcomes, reduced hunger among pupils, stronger community participation and increased corporate social responsibility.
Calling on stakeholders to support the programme, Adebowale urged Nigerians to embrace the initiative as a collective investment in the country’s future.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to learn. Every classroom deserves the opportunity to thrive. Every community deserves the opportunity to participate in shaping the future.
“By adopting a school, supporting a child, or partnering through the PBAT FEEDS Dashboard, stakeholders become active participants in building a healthier, smarter and more prosperous Nigeria,”she said
