The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force.
The appointment, announced by the Force Headquarters in Abuja on June 19, 2026, is expected to strengthen the Force’s strategic communication framework and deepen public engagement as the police continue to implement reforms aimed at improving accountability, transparency and operational efficiency.
In a statement issued by the outgoing Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the Inspector-General expressed confidence in CSP Iniedu’s ability to effectively lead the Force Public Relations Department, citing his extensive experience in public communication, intelligence management, operational policing and institutional administration.
A native of Etinan Local Government Area, CSP Iniedu holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Chemistry from University of Uyo and has participated in several professional development programmes covering investigative interviewing, crime scene management, intelligence analysis, strategic communication and human rights-based policing.
Before his elevation to the position of Force spokesperson, CSP Iniedu served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
In that role, he oversaw public complaint management processes and spearheaded initiatives designed to enhance transparency, strengthen institutional accountability and build public confidence in the police.
His career within the Nigeria Police Force spans several operational, investigative and administrative assignments across the country.
He previously served as Public Relations Officer at the Police College of Information Technology in Kobape, Ogun State, where he played a key role in promoting the institution’s activities and strengthening communication with stakeholders.
CSP Iniedu also held strategic operational positions including Operations Officer at the Maisandari Division in Yobe State Command, Area Crime Officer at Umuahia Area Command in Abia State, and Staff Officer at the IGP Secretariat, Force Headquarters.
In addition, he served as Second-in-Command of the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Kubwa, Abuja, and later as Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room, a critical unit responsible for coordinating and disseminating crime and security information nationwide.
Police authorities described his appointment as a reflection of the Force’s commitment to professionalism and effective public communication, noting that his wealth of experience positions him to strengthen the relationship between the police and the public.
The Inspector-General said the new FPRO is expected to leverage his professional background to enhance the Force’s communication strategy, showcase operational achievements and support ongoing policing reforms aimed at improving service delivery and public trust.
As part of his new responsibilities, CSP Iniedu will serve as the principal spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, managing communication between the institution, the media and the public while providing timely information on security matters and policing activities across the country.
