The Delta State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a university student accused of stabbing his younger brother to death during a domestic dispute over bathroom slippers in Asaba.
Police confirmed that the suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident, which has left the local community in shock and mourning.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Bright Edafe, disclosed this on his Facebook page on Monday.
Edafe said the incident occurred on June 17, 2026, involving Fejiro, 21, a 200-level student, and his younger brother, Joseph, 19, a 100-level student.
According to preliminary reports, the altercation occurred at the family residence when the older brother, an undergraduate at a university in Delta State, confronted his younger sibling for allegedly using his bathroom slippers without permission.
What began as a verbal disagreement reportedly escalated into violence after neighbours and family members heard a heated argument between the two brothers.
Witness accounts indicate that the suspect allegedly picked up a sharp kitchen knife during the confrontation and stabbed his younger brother in the chest.
Family members and neighbours rushed the victim to a nearby medical facility in an attempt to save his life. However, medical personnel confirmed he was pronounced dead on arrival due to severe internal bleeding caused by the stab wound.
His body has since been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.
The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the homicide and says tactical teams have been deployed to track down the fleeing suspect.
According to police, detectives have cordoned off the scene, recovered potential evidence, and are collecting statements from witnesses and family members as part of ongoing investigations.
Security operatives are also monitoring known student areas, residences of associates, and transport routes out of the state in an effort to locate the suspect.
A police spokesperson described the incident as a “deeply tragic case of uncontrolled anger,” adding that no domestic dispute justifies the taking of a life, especially within a family.
Police say the suspect will face a murder charge upon arrest. Authorities are urging him to surrender to the nearest police station, while also calling on members of the public with useful information to assist in the investigation.
As the community struggles to come to terms with the killing, local leaders have appealed for greater emphasis on conflict resolution and emotional control among young people.
The case remains under active investigation.
