The Cross River State House of Assembly has screened Obi Ayuk as Commissioner for Culture and Tourism following his nomination by Governor Bassey Otu.
Ayuk’s nomination is to fill the vacancy created by the death of the former Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Abubakar Robert Ewa, who passed away in January 2025.
He appeared before lawmakers on Tuesday, where he outlined his vision for the ministry, pledging to harness the state’s rich cultural heritage and tourism assets to drive economic growth, create jobs, and attract investment.
The commissioner-nominee emphasized the need to reposition Cross River as a leading tourism destination in Nigeria through strategic partnerships, improved infrastructure, and the promotion of cultural festivals and tourist attractions across the state.
Governor Otu had recently forwarded Ayuk’s nomination to the House as part of efforts to strengthen his administration’s drive to revive the state’s tourism sector and unlock its economic potential.
