A local hunter, simply identified as Sunday and said to be the son of the head of hunters in Ayepe, Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State, has been killed by suspected cattle rustlers.
It was gathered that Sunday died from gunshot wounds inflicted by the suspected rustlers, who reportedly made away with cattle under his care at a farm located between Ayepe and Sagamu. The incident occurred on what was said to be his first day on the job.
Residents said the deceased had just been hired by the owner of the cattle to provide security for the herd following a recent attack on workers tending the animals.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, said eight of the stolen cows had so far been recovered.
The police spokesperson added that the command had launched a manhunt for the perpetrators through intensive bush-combing operations being carried out in collaboration with community security groups and local hunters.
