Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy and Colombian pop icon Shakira are set to perform the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup during the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico City.
The highly anticipated performance will take place at Estadio Azteca on June 11, just before the opening match between Mexico and South Africa.
Official World Cup Anthem Takes Centre Stage
The duo will perform Dai Dai, the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to FIFA, the anthem was created to reflect football’s ability to unite people from different cultures, nations and backgrounds through a shared passion for the sport.
The song’s title, an Italian phrase commonly translated as “let’s go” or “come on,” is expected to become one of the defining sounds of the tournament.
Global Music Stars Join FIFA Celebration
The opening ceremony will also feature performances from J Balvin and Tyla.
FIFA said the artists were selected to showcase the global nature of the competition and bring together different musical influences from across continents.
The month-long tournament will feature additional opening celebrations in Canada and the United States.
More Entertainment Planned Across Host Nations
In Toronto, Canadian music stars Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette are expected to headline festivities before Canada’s first match.
Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Katy Perry and Future will perform ahead of the United States’ opening fixture.
Shakira Returns to the World Cup Stage
The 2026 tournament marks another major World Cup appearance for Shakira, whose previous football anthems became global hits and remain closely associated with FIFA tournaments.
She is also expected to perform during the World Cup final, where FIFA plans to introduce its first-ever Super Bowl-style halftime show.
The final is scheduled for July 19 and will reportedly feature appearances from Madonna and BTS.
