Portuguese tactician, Marco Silva, has been announced as new head coach of Portuguese giantsz.Benfica, following the departure of fellow countryman, Jose Mourinho at the club.
Benfica disclosed that Silva, who left Premier League club, Fulham, this summer signed a two-year deal with the option to extend for another year at the Estadio da Luz, as he returns to Portuguese football for the first time since leaving Sporting CP in 2015.
Silva departed Fulham after five years in charge, a spell that included Premier League promotion and an 11th‑place finish last season, just two points off European qualification, over now to Benfica side that ended last term unbeaten and finishing third under Mourinho, who has left to rejoin Real Madrid.
Silva’s managerial career began at GD Estoril, where he earned promotion and guided them to the UEFA Europa League. He won the Taca de Portugal trophy in 2014/15 during his one year in charge in Sporting Lisbon before taking up the reins at Greek side Olympiakos, where he won the Super League.
He joined Hull in January 2017 with the team sitting bottom of the Premier League. Although performances improved markedly under his watch, he was unable to prevent The Tigers from slipping to relegation.
Silva spent half a year at Watford before joining Everton in May 2018, guiding them to an eighth-place finish and eventually being appointed at Craven Cottage.
