Police in Northern Ireland have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder following a violent knife attack that left a man with life-threatening injuries in Belfast.
The incident, which occurred late Monday night in north Belfast, has triggered widespread concern across the city after disturbing footage circulated online showing members of the public attempting to intervene before officers arrived.
Authorities confirmed that the victim, a man in his 40s, remains in hospital receiving treatment for serious injuries.
Police Confirm Arrest Following Violent Attack
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said emergency services responded to reports of a serious assault in the Kinnaird Street area at approximately 10:30 p.m.
Investigators confirmed that a suspect, believed to be a Sudanese national and aged in his 30s, was arrested shortly after the incident. He remains in police custody while detectives continue their inquiries.
According to police, the victim suffered severe wounds to the face, neck and back during the attack.
Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson described the assault as a deeply disturbing act of violence that has shaken the local community.
“This brutal attack has understandably caused significant concern among residents,” Henderson said while confirming that a critical incident investigation has been launched.

Residents in the area recounted dramatic moments as screams rang out through the neighborhood.
Several members of the public reportedly intervened before police officers arrived at the scene. Video footage circulating online appears to show bystanders confronting the suspect in an effort to prevent further harm.
