Mohammed Wanzam Zaki, a member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly representing Sakwa Constituency, has died after a brief illness.
Zaki, who served as Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation, reportedly passed away in the early hours of Sunday in Bauchi.
The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman, announced the death in a statement issued through his spokesman, Mukhtar Garba Kobi.
Expressing deep sorrow over the loss, the Speaker described the late lawmaker as a committed public servant who made valuable contributions to his constituency and the state.
“With a heavy heart and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, I announce the passing of a member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly representing Sakwa Constituency, Hon. Mohammad Wanzam. Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un,” the statement read.
Funeral Prayer Held in Bauchi
The funeral prayer for the late legislator was held on Sunday at the Gwallaga Juma’at Mosque in Bauchi.
Sulaiman prayed for Allah to forgive the deceased, accept his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
Reacting to the development, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed described the death of the lawmaker as a painful loss to the state.
In a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor said the late Zaki distinguished himself through diligence, patriotism and dedication to public service.
According to the governor, the deceased played an important role in legislative oversight and policy formulation aimed at improving the welfare of the people of Bauchi State.
Governor Mohammed described the late lawmaker as a dependable legislator and bridge-builder whose humility and commitment earned him the respect of colleagues and residents.
He noted that Zaki’s death was a huge loss not only to his family and constituents but also to the entire state.
The governor urged the people of Bauchi State to emulate the late legislator’s virtues of selflessness and service and prayed for Allah to grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
