The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has fixed August 17 for the conduct of the 2026 local government elections.
BASIEC gave the 60-day notie disclosing that the declaration forms part of preparations for council election, adding that it serves as a formal reminder to all registered political parties, election stakeholders and residents to begin necessary arrangements ahead of the exercise, in compliance with the provisions of the Bauchi State Electoral Law, which requires adequate notification before the conduct of elections.
The announcement conveyed yesterday in a statement released by the commission signed by its Secretary, Nuru Abdulhamid, disclosing that it had consistently followed its electoral timetable and legal obligations to guarantee an orderly election process.
Furthermore, BASIEC urged political parties intending to contest the elections to conclude their internal nomination processes and strictly comply with all electoral guidelines issued by the commission.
The electoral body stressed that adherence to established regulations would be crucial to achieving a credible and peaceful election across the state’s local government areas.
Meanwhile, the commission disclosed that additional guidelines, schedules and operational details would be released in the coming weeks to assist political parties and other stakeholders participating in the electoral process.
It reaffirmed its commitment to conducting elections that are free, fair, transparent and acceptable to the people.
The commission noted that it had earlier issued a 360-day notice in August 2025 to provide political parties with ample time to organise their activities ahead of the polls.
