Bandits kill vigilante, abduct 10 residents in Sokoto

A gang of bandits has killed a vigilante operative and abducted about 10 residents during a devastating attack on a community in Sokoto state.

The bandits stormed the quiet community, opening fire which led to the death the vigilante group member, who died after being rushed to a hospital, an incident which threw the residents into panic before whisking away some victims.

The Monday night which attack occurred at the outskirts of a Sabon Birni town in Sabon Birni Local Government Area led to the abduction of about 10 people, as disclosed by a state lawmaker representing the affected constituency, Aminu Boza.

“I cannot give the exact number of people abducted because Sabon Birni is not a small community,” Boza said.

“Some residents may have fled into nearby bushes, while others might not have been in town at the time of the attack.

“Until a thorough search is conducted, it will be difficult to ascertain the exact figure,” he said.

Furthermore, Boza explained that the violence occurred at Kantin Gabas, a location on the outskirts of the town close to the community’s Eid prayer ground, adding that its proximity still makes it part of the broader settlement.

Meanwhile, when contacted, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, Ahmad Rufa’i, said that he had not yet received full details of the incident but promised to liaise with the divisional police officer in the area for clarification.
