Bandits kill resident, abduct 30 others in Kogi
A gang of bandits has killed one resident and abducted no fewer than 30 others during an attack on residents of a community in Kogi state.
The bandits struck without any immediate resistance from security forces, killing one person on the spot and leaving another injured during the incident.
Among those taken away were 13 residents, men and women, while other victims were 17 passengers in a commercial bus that was intercepted as it passed through the community.
It was gathered that the attack occurred in Ayegunle Bunu community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State in the early hours of Monday, around 2:25 a.m.
According to the account of community members on Monday morning, the gunmen reportedly operated for several minutes before escaping with their captives to an unknown destination.
Community leaders who spoke to correspondents pleaded with the Kogi State Police comm command and the State government to intervene and help rescue those who were kidnapped.
Meanwhile, the latest incident has heightened fears among residents over worsening insecurity in Kogi State and along major roads linking communities with the Kwara state borders.
