Bandits kill NSCDC officer, abduct daughter in Kogi

A Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer identified as Ayo has been reported killed by bandits who also abducted his daughter during an attack on his residence in Kogi State.

The bandits, as learnt, stormed the officer’s home, shot him and forcefully took away one of his daughters before fleeing the area on their motorcycles.

Ayo, reportedly sustained gunshot wounds during the assault, although residents rushed him to a medical facility in a desperate effort to save his life, he was later pronounced dead by doctors.

It was gathered on Tuesday that the gunmen attack the former NSCDC officer’s home yesterday in Odo-Ere, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.

A resident, who did not want his name in public, described the attack as devastating, saying, “Residents are deeply worried by the increasing number of violent incidents.

“People are living in fear and are demanding stronger security measures to protect lives and property.”

He disclosed that efforts are currently underway to rescue the abducted girl as security agencies have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators to save the former NSCDC officer’s daughter.l

After the attack, the officer’s remain was deposited in a mortuary, while residents continued to express anxiety over the deteriorating security situation in the region.

As of the time of filing this report, Kogi police command was yet to issue an official statement regarding the killing and abduction.

However, The Guild reports that the latest attack comes only days after another violent incident in Ayegunle-Igun in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, where bandits reportedly killed two people and abducted several residents.
