A Plateau resident who escaped from bandits after months in captivity has been reunited with his family through the efforts of troops of the Nigerian Army.
The man, identified as Musa Muhammad, was first taken into military custody for screening and intelligence gathering before being safely handed over to his relatives.
He was picked up by troops during clearance operations in Yuli Village, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, where he was discovered after escaping from his abductors.
A military source told correspondents on Thursday that Muhammad had escaped from a bandit camp in Bauchi State, where he was held hostage, before being intercepted during ongoing operations in Plateau.
According to the source, the victim provided useful information to security operatives during debriefing sessions aimed at strengthening efforts against criminal networks.
“He was found after successfully fleeing captivity. Following necessary security checks and intelligence extraction, we were able to reunite him with his family,” the source said.
The source added that Muhammad, who hails from Pikat community, was abducted by suspected Fulani bandits in April 2026 while in neighbouring Bauchi State.
He further noted that the successful reunion underscores the impact of ongoing military operations targeting bandit hideouts across Plateau and surrounding states.
“Troops remain committed to dismantling criminal hideouts and ensuring that vulnerable communities are protected from threats posed by armed groups,” the source added.
