Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have killed two terrorists during coordinated military operations in parts of Sokoto and Katsina States between Sunday and Monday.
The operations also led to the foiling of planned attacks, the rescue of abducted residents, and the recovery of weapons, livestock, and other items.
Recovered items include a PKT assault rifle, an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, three motorcycles, communication devices, rustled livestock, and materials allegedly used to support criminal activities.
A statement by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja on Monday said the operations are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks across the North-West.
According to the statement, troops acted on actionable intelligence to prevent a planned attack and later pursued fleeing suspects who were moving with kidnapped victims and rustled animals.
Surveillance assets tracked the terrorists’ movements before troops launched a pursuit operation and encountered resistance, including a reported ambush attempt during withdrawal.
“Despite the hostile action, troops maintained the initiative, overcame the ambush, and forced the criminals to disperse,” the statement said.
Following the operation, abducted civilians were rescued, rustled cattle were recovered, and two motorcycles believed to have been used by the terrorists were seized.
Danja said the successes demonstrate the military’s determination to sustain pressure on armed groups and deny them operational freedom in the region.
“We remain committed to aggressive operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, protecting communities, and restoring lasting peace and security across the North-West,” he said.
