The Nigerian Army has killed a bandit and arrested nine others following an enforcement carried out against to curb insecurity in Zamfara State communities.
The arrests, carried out by men of the FANSAN YAMMA in separate operations were carried out after an intelligence gathering, which led to the recovery of fourteen motorcycles, communication devices, military-style uniforms and other items believed to have been used by the suspects were recovered during their operations.
The army, on Tuesday, disclosed that it’s personnel carried out the arrests between Friday and Saturday in Birnin Magaji, Kaura Namoda, Zurmi, Maru, and Shinkafi local government area, adding that eight other bandit members were apprehended during a fighting patrol.
Another bandit believed to be linked to the distribution of intercepted ammunition was arrested following intelligence-led investigations.
A statement by the military held that the arrests and recoveries were part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist logistics and weaken criminal networks operating across affected communities.
In another operation, soldiers engaged armed terrorists after receiving reports of an attack on a community.
Unfortunately, the gunmen fled into nearby bushes following the troops’ intervention with preliminary findings indicating that the attackers had stolen valuables belonging to residents before soldiers arrived.
Also, soldiers responded to an ambush on commuters travelling along a major road with terrorists attacking two civilian vehicles, prompting military personnel to secure the area and evacuate injured victims for medical treatment.
The army said efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing terrorists and rescue any passengers who may have been abducted during the incident.
During another encounter with terrorists, troops engaged the criminals in a firefight, killing one of them and recovering seven motorcycles believed to have been used for their operations.
Concluding its statement, the army urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information, stressing that sustained cooperation from the public remains vital to ongoing counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations.
