Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested two suspects accused of collaborating with terrorists in Borno State.
The military, in separate intelligence-led operations arrested 24-year-old Modu Auta, who was linked to Boko Haram activities, alongside Umara Abubakar, 22, linked to ISWAP was arrested by troops working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle insurgent support networks in the state.
Auta was arrested in Izge community of Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State on Monday, while Abubakar was apprehended at about 11:30 a.m. on Sunday in Kekeno town, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to a military source on Wednesday, the arrests followed intelligence gathered from the interrogation of previously detained suspects linked with terrorist groups operating within Borno.
The source added that preliminary investigations indicated that Auta admitted to residing in an area near the Sambisa Forest, a location frequently associated with terrorist operations.
Also, the military source disclosed that the suspect provided investigators with the names of several other individuals connected to the network.
Those named include Amodu Haruna, Ibrahim Idris, Tanko and Ibu.
“A suspect currently in custody has provided useful information that is assisting ongoing investigations and follow-up operations,” the military source said.
He added that Modu Auta remains in military custody while efforts are underway to track down and apprehend other individuals mentioned during the investigation.
“The operation reflects the military’s commitment to identifying and neutralising individuals who provide support to terrorist groups,” the source added.
The military source described both arrests as part of sustained intelligence-driven operations designed to weaken terrorist networks and deny insurgents access to informants and logistical support across the North-East.
He added that although the security situation across the theatre remains relatively calm, troops continue to maintain vigilance and operational pressure against terrorist elements in the region.
