Troops of the Nigerian Army have dismantled a suspected drug distribution hub in Plateau State, arresting three alleged drug peddlers and recovering quantities of suspected illicit substances during a targeted raid.
The operation formed part of ongoing efforts by the military to disrupt illegal drug trafficking networks and curb criminal activities linked to the sale and distribution of prohibited substances in the state.
The suspects, identified as Abubakar Abdulrahman, 23, Muhammadu Abubakar, 28, and Awal Ali, 33, were arrested after troops stormed the location, which security operatives described as a notorious centre for illicit drug activities.
The operation was carried out at about 6:00 a.m. on Monday by troops of Sector 1, Operation Enduring Peace, in the Congo-Russia area of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
During the raid, the troops recovered quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa and other prohibited drugs believed to have been kept for distribution.
A military source familiar with the operation disclosed the development on Tuesday, describing the raid as part of sustained intelligence-driven operations aimed at tackling drug trafficking and other crimes threatening public safety.
“Our troops remain committed to denying criminal elements the freedom to operate and will continue to conduct intelligence-driven operations against drug traffickers and other offenders,” the source said.
The military source further disclosed that the three suspects had been profiled and were undergoing investigation to determine the extent of their involvement in the illicit drug trade.
According to the source, the suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon the conclusion of investigations.
