The Nigerian Army has arrested a suspected collaborator of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) as part of ongoing efforts to curb insurgency and its support networks in Adamawa State.
Operatives of the 144 Battalion, during a routine market patrol operation came after a close monitoring the on the suspect’s activities, carried out the enforcement, adding that the alleged has been held for prosecution.
His arrest at the Madagali town, Madagali Local Government Area at about 4:00 p.m. on Saturday came following an intelligence-driven operations aimed at identifying individuals allegedly aiding terrorist groups through information sharing and other forms of support.
The suspect is believed to have maintained contacts with insurgent elements operating in the North-East, raising concerns about his alleged role within the terror group’s local support structure.
“The arrest is a significant step in ongoing efforts to identify and neutralise individuals suspected of assisting insurgents,” a military source said.
“Operations are being intensified to ensure that those providing support to terrorist groups are brought to justice.”
Furthermore, preliminary findings reportedly linked the suspect to activities that may have aided insurgent operations, prompting security agencies to launch a more detailed investigation into his alleged connections and level of involvement.
The military authorities have yet to release the suspect’s identity as investigations continue, adding that the operation forms part of sustained counter-insurgency measures designed to disrupt intelligence channels used by terrorist groups and deny them access to local support networks.
