Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested two suspected terrorist collaborators during an intelligence-led operation aimed at disrupting insurgent support networks in Yobe State.
The suspects, identified as Gambo Bukar, 28, and Ahmad Ahmed, 21, are alleged to have provided information to fighters of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
It was gathered on Friday that the suspects were apprehended by troops of the 120 Task Force Battalion in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) during an operation in Gonori, Gujba Local Government Area of the state.
A military source familiar with the operation said the arrests followed actionable intelligence gathered by troops monitoring activities linked to insurgent movements in the area.
“The operation was carried out based on credible intelligence, which indicated that the suspects were maintaining contacts with terrorist elements and supplying information to them,” the source said.
The source added that investigations have commenced to determine the extent of the suspects’ involvement with the terrorist groups and identify other possible members of the network.
Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to apprehend a third suspect believed to be linked to the same intelligence network.
The suspect is currently at large, while troops continue surveillance and follow-up operations to facilitate his arrest.
According to the military source, the arrested suspects have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution in accordance with the law.
