The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected suggestions that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, could permanently move to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The opposition party insisted that Wike remains one of its major political figures despite his role in an APC-led administration.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, stated that the party has no intention of losing one of its prominent members.
Party responds to APC chairman’s comments
The reaction followed comments by APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who praised Wike’s performance and leadership while commissioning a project in Abuja.
The PDP said the commendation reflected the quality of leaders associated with the party and described Wike as an important part of its political structure.
The party argued that Wike’s involvement with the current federal government should not be interpreted as a defection.
PDP describes Wike’s role as temporary arrangement
According to the PDP, Wike’s service under the APC-led government does not change his political identity or relationship with the opposition party.
The party described his appointment as a form of temporary cooperation and maintained that there is no arrangement for a permanent move.
The PDP also said Wike’s achievements in infrastructure development and urban renewal in Abuja show his leadership ability.
Party highlights Wike’s influence ahead of 2027
The opposition party praised the FCT minister’s contributions to public service and said his performance demonstrates the capacity of its members.
It urged Nigerians to support the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections, saying the party has experienced leaders capable of driving national development.
