THE Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights (CHSR) has commended the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 2 Command, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, for his commitment to justice and professionalism in the investigation of the Ajiran killings during his tenure as commissioner of police in Lagos State.

The President of CHSR, Mr Alex Omotehinse, presented a letter of commendation to Jimoh during a visit to the Zone 2 Command Headquarters on Thursday in Lagos, in recognition of his role in ensuring a thorough investigation and prosecution of suspects linked to the killings.
Omotehinse said the organisation had closely monitored the case since the murder of Sheriff Salami in 2023 and had consistently advocated a thorough investigation, as well as the arrest and prosecution of all those responsible.
According to him, CHSR organised protests and engaged relevant authorities over concerns surrounding the case.
He recalled that the killing of another community member, Prince Ademola Akinloye, in 2024 further heightened public concern and intensified calls for justice.
Omotehinse said the arrest and prosecution of suspects had restored public confidence and demonstrated the determination of the police to pursue justice.
He said the organisation was particularly impressed by Jimoh’s role in ensuring that investigations were not derailed despite alleged attempts to influence the process.
“We have seen a police officer who acted professionally and stood his ground to ensure that victims get justice,” he said.
Omotehinse said the visit was to formally present a letter of commendation to the AIG in recognition of his commitment to justice and accountability.
He urged the police to remain steadfast and ensure that the ongoing prosecution of the suspects was pursued to its logical conclusion.
Responding, Jimoh assured residents of Ajiran Community that justice would prevail in the matter.
The AIG said the Nigeria Police Force remained committed to ensuring that criminal cases were thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.
He said that double murder case, which occurred in 2023 and 2024, had generated widespread concern within and outside the community.
Jimoh disclosed that two suspects had earlier been arrested and charged to court, while a third suspect, 38-year-old Tajudeen Akanbi, fled the country but was recently apprehended and arraigned alongside the other defendants.
According to him, the principal suspect, Akanbi was declared wanted after fresh evidence emerged linking him to the crimes.
He said the arrest was made through collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL).
Jimoh commended INTERPOL Nigeria and INTERPOL Benin Republic for tracking and returning the suspect to Nigeria to face prosecution.
“If you commit an offence anywhere in the world, it is only a matter of time before the law catches up with you,” he said.
The AIG reiterated the commitment of the police to justice and accountability, adding that unresolved criminal cases would continue to receive attention.
He urged members of the public to support law enforcement agencies with credible information to aid investigations.
Jimoh assured members of the Ajiran Community, both at home and in the diaspora, that the police would remain committed to ensuring justice for the victims and their families.
