A former House of Representatives aspirant under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bashar Geda, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State alongside thousands of supporters, in a major political realignment in the state.
The defection took place on Saturday at Nasarawa I Ward, according to a statement from the state government, and was formally received by APC officials representing the party leadership in the state.
Geda, who previously contested the ADC primary for the Bunza/Birnin Kebbi/Kalgo Federal Constituency, said his decision was driven by the developmental strides of Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris and his administration’s policies.
Receiving the defectors, APC leaders welcomed the new members and assured them of equal opportunity within the party, describing the move as a boost to the ruling party’s strength in the state.
Geda’s father, Alhaji Abubakar Geda, also expressed support for the decision, pledging continued backing for the APC and the governor’s leadership.
Governor Idris, in his remarks, thanked the new entrants for joining the party and assured them of inclusion in ongoing political and developmental efforts across the state.
The defection adds to a series of recent political shifts in Kebbi State, where both ruling and opposition parties have continued to witness movements of politicians and grassroots supporters ahead of future elections.
