The first batch of 560 Kwara State pilgrims has returned home after completing the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
The pilgrims arrived at the Babatunde Idiagbon International Airport, Ilorin, aboard a Max Air flight at 12:23 p.m. on Sunday alongside three officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
Speaking on arrival, the pilgrims expressed gratitude to Allah for a successful pilgrimage and commended the Kwara State Government for its support throughout the exercise.
In an interview with journalists, the Mufashir Agba of Ilorin, Alhaji Uthman Iyanda-Muhammad, popularly known as Sannu-Sheu, described this year’s Hajj as exceptional and praised the provision of local meals for pilgrims, which he said was a commendable initiative.
Also speaking, one of the pilgrims, Alhaji AbdulGaniy Naallah Pako, appreciated the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board for the arrangements made for accommodation, feeding and transportation during the pilgrimage.
A female pilgrim, Alhaja Saka Rasheedat, also expressed gratitude to the state government for ensuring a successful and hitch-free Hajj exercise.
Family members, friends and well-wishers were at the airport to receive the returning pilgrims and expressed joy over their safe return.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board said the second batch of pilgrims is expected to arrive on Tuesday and assured that necessary arrangements have been made for their reception.
