2027: ADC’s Zakari Mohammed Unveils Security, Education, Agriculture Agenda for Kwara
The gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kwara State, Mr. Zakari Mohammed, has unveiled his blueprint for tackling insecurity and stimulating socio-economic development in the state if elected governor in 2027.
Mohammed disclosed this while appearing as a guest on an Arise Television programme., where he highlighted security, education and agriculture as key pillars of his administration’s development agenda.
He explained that a secure environment is fundamental to sustainable development and economic growth, stressing that his administration would adopt a whole-of-society approach to addressing security challenges across the state.
According to him, the strategy would involve close collaboration among community stakeholders, security agencies and the deployment of modern technology to strengthen security architecture and improve intelligence gathering.
Mohammed said traditional rulers, religious leaders, vigilante groups and community associations would be actively engaged to complement the efforts of conventional security agencies.
“We will work closely with critical stakeholders at the community level, including traditional and religious leaders, vigilante groups and other relevant associations, to support and strengthen the operations of security agencies,” he said.
He added that advanced technological tools such as drones, satellite surveillance systems and other intelligence-gathering devices would be deployed to track criminal activities and dismantle criminal hideouts.
“Additionally, we will deploy advanced technological tools, including drones, satellite systems and other surveillance devices, to gather intelligence on criminal elements and target their enclaves. In some cases, security operatives may not need to physically enter these locations before carrying out precision operations, thereby reducing casualties among personnel,” he stated.
The ADC candidate expressed confidence in his chances of winning the 2027 governorship election, citing his political experience, leadership credentials and commitment to public service.
“I have served as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development as well as Commissioner for Energy in Kwara State. I also represented the Baruten/Kaima Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives twice, where I served as the House Spokesperson and Chairman of the House Committee on Universal Basic Education,” Mohammed said.
He further recalled his experience as a journalist, noting that the profession afforded him the opportunity to travel extensively across the state and gain firsthand knowledge of its challenges and development needs.
According to him, this exposure would facilitate the effective implementation of his administration’s policies and programmes.
On education, Mohammed pledged to make quality education accessible and affordable for all residents of the state. He also promised to establish vocational schools and skills acquisition centres to equip young people with employable and entrepreneurial skills.
In the agricultural sector, he said his administration would prioritise mechanised farming to maximise the state’s vast arable land, enhance food production and create employment opportunities for youths.
“To strengthen food security and expand job opportunities, we will promote mechanised agriculture and fully utilise the state’s agricultural potential. This will not only increase food production but also generate sustainable livelihoods for our young people,” he said.
He added that his administration would focus on developing agricultural value chains and processing facilities to make both subsistence and commercial farming more productive, profitable and attractive to investors.
“Furthermore, we will support value addition and agro-processing initiatives to ensure that agriculture becomes a viable and rewarding enterprise for farmers and agribusiness operators across the state,” Mohammed added.
