A 21-year-old Nigerian footballer, Victor Udoh, has died following suspicions of food poisoning during an outing with friends after visiting from his Europe base club.
Udoh was said to be having an outing with friends during holiday but later complained of issues in his stomach and was rushed to the hospital where he was later found lifeless.
Although there are no cogent causes of his death disclosed, sources who rushed him to the hospital in Abuja yesterday cited it to be likely food or drink poisoning, the death of the erstwhile Royal Antwerp forward throwing the football world into mourning.
The deceased, born in October 2004 in Akwa Ibom State, rose through the ranks after moving from Nigeria to Belgium in 2023. His performances with Royal Antwerp youth side earned him a first-team debut, after which he moved to England with Southampton and Czech side, SK Dynamo Cseke Budejovice.
